Domain, DNS and SSL checklist for Bangladesh sites

Most “site down” days start with DNS, SSL or an expired domain.

Own the domain

Keep registrar access in the company name and diary renewals.

Align web and email DNS

A/CNAME for the site, MX/TXT for mail — change one without breaking the other.

Keep domain ownership independent of the supplier

Use the following worksheet to turn this article into an operating decision. It is a practical plan for a Bangladesh small business, not a claim about a particular client or an industry benchmark. Adapt it to your current workflow and constraints.

  1. Register the domain under a business-controlled account and recovery address. Record who can renew it.

  2. Before changing DNS, save the current records and identify website, email and verification entries. A website move must not silently break email.

  3. Check HTTPS, redirects and mail delivery after a change. Keep a rollback record with the old values and the reason for the change.

Write this before requesting proposals

Describe the current process, the failing step, the intended users and what a correct outcome looks like. Prepare representative test data so suppliers can demonstrate the same task. Ask separately about recurring costs, third-party dependencies and work excluded from support.

When to change the plan

Resolve missing access, failed acceptance checks or unclear team ownership before paying for the next stage. Use evidence from a small pilot. If scope grows, agree revised time and costs rather than relying on unsupported guarantees.
